Visual Arts
The Music Department at the Arts Academy prepares students with highly diverse musical backgrounds for successful college-level music study and professional careers. Our curriculum is firmly rooted in the traditions of classical music and jazz, and is comprised of high-level private study, academic music courses, ensemble experience, and performance opportunities.

Private Instruction
Private instruction is an essential piece of a young musician’s growth. At the Arts Academy, we have assembled an experienced and creative faculty who help our students move forward on their individual paths. Each student has a weekly 45-minute private lesson on his or her principal instrument and, in turn, prepares for performances and recitals, competitions, quarterly proficiencies and juries, a senior recital, and ultimately, college auditions.

Academic Courses
All students receive training in a variety of academic classes designed to support their artistic development and instrumental or vocal progress. We offer four years of Music Theory, four years of Ear Training (including sightsinging and dictation), multiple years of Piano Lab, and two years of Composition. In addition, interested students may elect to take the courses Music for Motion Picture, Music Business/Law, and The History and Social Context of Jazz.

Ensembles
Students are placed in several ensembles, including classical and contemporary vocal ensembles, jazz combos, classical guitar ensembles, percussion ensembles, and chamber ensembles. These groups participate in a year-round series of performances, including vocal productions, an opera scenes program, jazz concerts, department recitals, outreach performances, and gigs.
