The craft of theatre encompasses multiple components. Therefore, The Arts Academy developed a program that introduces students to the discipline as a whole, The Theatre Generalist Program.  What this means is that throughout the students tenure in the theatre program they will be exploring acting, movement, technical theatre, and a host of electives.  The Generalist Program is designed to expose each student to all aspects of the theatrical art form and thus help them to discover their true passion within the craft.

The curriculum is modeled after top notch theatre conservatories around the county.  Student coursework follows these tracks:

ACTING
Acting I: Foundations and Basic Principals of Acting via Robert Cohen
Acting II: American Classical Theatre via Uta Hagen
Acting III: Classical Theatre from Shakespeare to Wilde via Meisner
Acting IV: Periods and Styles via Shurtleff
 
MOVEMENT
Movement I: Foundations and Basic Principals
Movement II: Foundations II via Alexander
Movement III/IV: Devised theatre and Stage Combat

TECHNICIAL THEATRE
Stagecraft: Foundations of technical theatre via Beck
Stagecraft II: Practicum
Lighting & Scenic Design: Basic Design via Backstage Handbook
Theatre Internship: Off-Campus Professional Internship

THE SEASON
The Theatre Department at The Arts Academy runs a full season of productions in accordance with our class studies.  Throughout the course of the year students will be exposed to a contemporary production, classical production, student directed one-act series, playwriting festival, movement workshop, classwork showcase, and a freshmen level readers theatre piece.  There are multiple opportunities for students at all levels to be involved in productions throughout the school year.

WHERE CAN OUR ALUMNI BE SEEN?
Graduates of The Arts Academy Theatre Department attend programs at the nation’s leading conservatories, universities, and professional schools.  Alumni may be seen on and off Broadway, television, and in major motion pictures.
