Chicago Academy for the Arts

The Music Department prepares students with highly diverse musical backgrounds for successful college-level music study and professional careers.

Our curriculum is firmly rooted in the traditions of classical music and jazz, and is comprised of high-level private study, academic music courses, ensemble experience, and performance opportunities.

“I can say with confidence that I have learned more this year than any other year at any other school, but with all the busy work of a public high school taken away.”
– Music Student
Chicago Academy for the Arts Music Program

Private instruction is an essential piece of a young musician’s growth. The Music Department has assembled an experienced and creative faculty who help our students move forward on their individual paths. Each student has a weekly 45-minute private lesson on his or her principal instrument and, in turn, prepares for performances and recitals, competitions, quarterly proficiencies and juries, a senior recital, and ultimately, college auditions.

Students also receive training in a variety of academic classes designed to support their artistic development and instrumental or vocal progress. They are also placed in several ensembles and these groups participate in a year-round series of performances.
