Musical Theatre is comprised of three disciplines: Dance, Music, and Theatre. Students wishing to excel in Musical Theatre must become a “triple threat” and perform well in all relevant areas. To become a triple threat, students must learn to master each area of the performing arts.
“My experience at the Arts Academy was the foundation for everything I have become as an artist. I learned discipline. I learned how to focus.”
– Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, Tony Nominated Actress; Alumni 1988
Research shows that when students learn the breadth and depth of one art form they make connections regarding the technical aspects of another art form. Responding to this growing body of evidence, CAA allows students to select an area of concentration during their freshman and sophomore years, and are then fully immersed in the discipline during their junior and senior years. Graduates attend highly regarded BFA conservatory programs as well as academic BA programs in Musical Theatre and related fields.
