Media Arts Department Chair
The Chicago Academy for the Arts, an independent, college-preparatory high school, seeks a full-time Media Arts Department Chair for the 2017-2018 school year and beyond.
One of six arts departments in the school, The Academy’s Media Arts Department consists of the chair, four part-time faculty members, and approximately 15 students majoring in filmmaking, animation, or creative writing.
The Media Arts Department Chair at The Academy is responsible for the overall supervision and management of the department’s curriculum, students, faculty, class schedule, production and show calendar, classrooms, and equipment. Additionally, the Chair is responsible for maintaining productive relationships with parents, the school’s various administrative offices, and the professional world outside of the school. Finally, the Chair serves as the lead teacher within the department by maintaining a robust teaching schedule.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have five or more years of experience working with adolescents in a school or high-level arts organization
- Have a Masters Degree in an arts discipline
- Have considerable arts management experience
- Be an active and accomplished filmmaker, writer, and/or animator
This full-time position consists of regular hours late-August through mid-May (including various weeknight and weekend events) and some miscellaneous duties during the summer months. The salary is in the high-$30,000’s.
