Visiting Artist Tom Torluemke

"A sense of purpose, a sense of intention, but also - be generous." -Visiting Artist Tom Torluemke on his process. Tom has been working with Academy students making inlay paper collages. He has been teaching techniques for how to create three separate but harmonious color patterns on different pieces of paper, and then cut and mix them up into different designs.

Tom recommended an honest artistic approach for Academy students. “We’re looking at the world through your eyes. The only person who can create Van Gogh's Bedroom is Van Gogh. We’re interested about how you see the world, and the invention that you’re going to make. So you need to dig something up from inside yourself, be inspired by something outside yourself, and then you want to give it generously.”

Tom currently has a show at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art and has regular shows at Linda Warren Projects.
