Protagonists Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff have invented alter egos in order to get out of tedious obligations and escape the moral duties of their lives. But their double lives soon spiral into a tangle of deception. Add two determined young women, an imposing aunt, and a series of increasingly absurd misunderstandings, and the result is one of theatre’s best-known comedies.
